Anyone who knew Kat was lucky. She was truly one of a kind — stoic, creative, and endlessly kind.
When I was 22, working in hospo and unsure of what I wanted to do, Kat mentioned she’d enrolled in design college. She told me about the course and I remember saying, that sounds so fun. A few weeks later, I got a call from the college: You’ve been accepted into Billy Blue College of Design.
Yep — she had enrolled me.
She even went through my photos and put a portfolio together for me. Going to that college was one of the best things I ever did. I later ended up lecturing there, and the skills I learned continue to shape my art to this day.
Kat was a wild woman with a big heart and a free spirit. She just did things like that for people — quietly, generously, without needing credit.
