Hotdogs or legs

A$410.00

A4 - acrylic on canvas.

There is something wonderfully unserious about lying in the sun. Your world shrinks to the size of a towel and the occasional glance upwards to watch palm fronds shuffle against a sky so blue it almost feels invented. Bodies become shapes more than people, cropped into frames by striped towels and patches of shade, and suddenly the old game of hotdogs or legs feels less like a joke and more like an exercise in abstraction. I found myself drawn to the quiet choreography of people doing absolutely nothing on my recent trip to Bali.

For me, this palette feels unexpectedly restrained. The softer olives, warm reds and saturated blues step back from the riot of colour I usually chase, and I enjoyed letting the composition breathe a little more. It’s less a painting of Bali than it is of that peculiar holiday state. After spending weeks painting an entire house, this felt like the intensity had finally loosened its grip.
