wildling
The dingo appears again and again throughout Side Quest Stories.
I’ve always been fascinated by them. There’s a fear attached to dingoes. they’re wild, unpredictable and untamed, but they’re also incredibly beautiful animals.
That contradiction is what draws me to them.
Of course, in Australia it’s almost impossible to think about the dingo without thinking about Lindy Chamberlain and what her story came to represent about judgement, disbelief and what happens when a woman’s version of events isn’t accepted.
That idea feels particularly important within Side Quest Stories.
So many experiences of domestic violence happen behind closed doors. They can be complicated, difficult to explain and sometimes completely different from what other people imagine abuse is supposed to look like.
The dingo became a little symbol throughout the house for that complexity.
For things that can be feared and misunderstood. For trusting women when they tell their stories. And for allowing something to be complicated without immediately deciding what it means.
