“Plenty of time”

Ironically this exhibition was pulled together in only 28 days. I was offered a space whilst holidaying overseas and I thought why not. I completed all 24 pieces in that 28 days, pulling inspiration from the places i visited within that time. It’s amazing what one can accomplish when you love what you do and apply a bit of pressure. :)

‘Just a while Longer’

HONEY BONES GALLERY - BRUNSWICK

I often find myself lost in the kind of vivid daydreams that place me in a landscape from former memory, a place in time where I ask myself permission to sit ‘Just a while longer’.

Inspired by the vast Australian land-scape, it’s saturated light and intense pigments ‘Just a while longer’ captures the playfulness and joy found when sitting in the tangible, unpredictable and wild world.

Through the use of acrylic paints on canvas, layer after layer, I navigate my way down the canvas capturing the place as my daydream recalls. Typically my work builds on bold coloured sections that signify hills, cliffs and water, then textures are overlayed in the form of repetitive lines or dots. Once the foundations have been set, I build out the scene. Rocks, trees, shrubs and native animals fill out the canvas then using a sharpie I outline the artwork which gives it a naive and surreal feel.

My work, for me, is nostalgic. Growing up in the 90’s reading Paul Jennings and eating Zooper Doopers at the beach is where my mind takes me when i’m creating these works. Wholesome days, filled with laughter and celebration while submerged in this glorious land.
