Murals + Community Workshop

Created for the children’s spaces at Latrobe Community Health Service in Churchill, this project explored how colour, storytelling and play could transform a clinical environment into somewhere that felt welcoming, curious and a little less clinical.

Across three spaces, I developed a series of interconnected murals, each responding to how the room was used. The main play therapy room became a colourful underwater world filled with whales, fish, coral and hidden details to discover. The corridor follows a winding Australian landscape populated by native animals, while the smaller sensory room shifts into a much softer palette of blues, greens and lavender, creating a calmer space for children who might need a little less visual stimulation.

An important part of the project was involving the children themselves. I facilitated a workshop with young participants before developing the final artwork, using their ideas and responses to help inform the direction of the murals. The intention was for the finished work to be more than decoration — something children could look at, talk about, explore and use as a point of connection with clinicians.
